Creative Fresno

Engaging creative professionals to create a stronger community

Projects

MindHub

MindHub is a community listserv. The mission of MindHub is to create an (online) community that encourages and supports creative professionals in the Central Valley. The goal is to have subscribers of the MindHub email list, creative professionals in the Fresno and surrounding areas, share information and help each other to find jobs, find employees, compare notes on their respective trades, and learn from each other in an unintimidating environment.

Best of all, membership is FREE! If you would like to join MindHub, all you need is an email address. Go to MindHub.org to sign up or learn more.

MindForums

The Mindforum series is a community education outreach program of Creative Fresno. The purpose is to bring new information to the creative class and encourage action to make Fresno a more vibrant place to live. Four education forums are scheduled throughout the year, focused on implementing the Creative Economy Council report. The CEC report encompasses smart growth, urban living and quality of place. The Forums are composed of 4 or 5 panel members and are directed by a moderator. The community is encouraged to ask questions and participate with a hands-on application of the discussion (e.g., tour, looking at models, community discussion).

Mural Project

Mural Project is Creative Fresno's vehicle for bringing together the talent, organizations and financial resources necessary to create artistic murals throughout Downtown Fresno and the greater community at large. Murals create an awareness and appreciation for the visual arts while building a sense of pride and connection within and throughout the community. Public art in general and murals in particular feed the cultural soul of the city as well as build Fresno into a destination place.

Getting involved is easy! Simply contact Donavan Byrn or check out the Mural Project Group.

Fresno Filmmakers Forum

Fresno has a growing community of filmmakers, but—like many of our local industries—it’s a disconnected group, which means missed opportunities. Local filmmakers, along with the Fresno Film & Entertainment Commission and Creative Fresno, are teaming together to building a stronger local filmmaking community by connecting area filmmakers to each other and to resources.

The goal of the Fresno Filmmakers Forum is to connect local filmmakers and production crewmembers to each other and encourage sharing of expertise, resources and support.

Fresno has the raw assets, including our diverse locations and proximity to L.A., to become a thriving film production community. This helps everyone. It helps the T.V. stations and ad agencies with access to more talent. It helps the local production companies with additional work. It helps local small businesses with an influx of additional spending dollars. And it helps our infrastructure with increased sales tax revenues.

The more creative people working here, the more creative our environment becomes, the more our economy improves.

The Fresno Filmmakers Forum is currently seeking sponsors for our event. If you have a business that targets creative professionals, this may be an opportunity for you. Include your company in the first Fresno Filmmakers Forum program. The program will be distributed to every attendee at the event. It will be referenced an average of seven times per attendee. It will have an extended shelf life and pass-along factor beyond the event. Additionally your company will be listed as a sponsor on the web site with a link to your site. Program ads start at $60. FUSE Festival

On October 18, 2008, Creative Fresno presented the first Fresno Urban Sound Experience, or FUSE, Festival: a one-day celebration and exploration of the city's musical landscape, featuring more than 20 musical acts reaching across musical genres—from rock to rap, alternative to jazz, and other styles thrown in for that truly authentic Fresno mix. Bands included Rademacher, Patrick Contreras, Blake Jones and the Trike Shop and more.

Pecha Kucha Night

Everything is designed. Pecha Kucha, Japanese for the sound of conversation, has tapped into a creative work forum that can be easily and informally shown. Pecha Kucha Night has spread across the world to it's 156th city: Fresno.

Pecha Kucha Night was conceived in Tokyo in 2003 as an event for designers to meet, network and show their work. The key to Pecha Kucha Night is its patented system for avoiding long-winded designers. Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds—giving 6 minutes, 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show.
